Keeping the Teams Behind NHS IT on the Road

Demands on the NHS - and changes to the way healthcare services have had to be delivered through the pandemic - have brought new opportunities for Ringwood-based company, Healthcare Computing Ltd (HC).

HC provides specialist infrastructure and support services to the NHS, helping to improve digital efficiency and patient care. HC’s engineers have been out on the road throughout the pandemic, assisting with the deployment of vaccination centres; refreshing hardware to help GP practices and Clinical Commissioning Groups mobilise their services; managing routine IT projects and updates.

To keep their engineers mobile, and tackle the challenges of sustainable development, HC has leased 14 additional hybrid cars from national fleet management experts, Wessex Fleet in Wilton, near Salisbury.

These cars include 11 new Toyota Corolla Touring Sports (1.8 VVT-I Hybrid Icon Tech), all in denim blue. The HC fleet now spans 21 vehicles, including several small, fuel-efficient vans like the Ford Transit Courier. Three more Toyota Corollas are due for delivery later in the year.

“As a carbon neutral organisation, we work hard to compensate for carbon emissions produced in the natural day-to-day running of the business,” says Neil Payne, Managing Director at HC. “In response, we have replaced our service engineers’ cars with low-emission hybrids. The new and more fuel-efficient fleet will reduce our impact by emitting less CO2 and improving air quality.

“Leasing our vehicles from Wessex Fleet gives us confidence that our teams are driving well maintained, environmentally-friendly and reliable cars. Wessex takes all the hassle out of managing the fleet, handling all day-to-day admin, as well as servicing and emergency repairs, breakdown and accident recovery. It’s reassuring to know we continue to reduce our carbon footprint, whilst meeting our duty of care to ensure the safety of our engineers – they are all driving modern, environmentally friendly, and well-equipped vehicles.”

Wessex Fleet’s Simon Naylor, adds: “The Corolla is a great choice – it’s got it all in terms of spec and space but its CO2 credentials and low running costs are really appealing to forward-thinking companies like HC, looking to move to a greener fleet. Initiating the process of bringing hybrid and fully electric vehicles on board now, as part of a carefully thought-out policy, is a smart step and we’re delighted to be helping HC make that switch.”
