Road Safety Week will soon be upon us; an annual event, coordinated by the road safety charity Brake, that promotes life-saving messages and inspires action for safer roads.
The week is held in November, and for 2025, it will run from November 16-22 with the theme “Safe Vehicles Save Lives”. The campaign focuses on encouraging safe driving practices, pedestrian safety, and promoting the importance of vehicles designed to prevent crashes and protect people in the event of an accident.
How Wessex Fleet supports road safety
As a fleet management company, we’re proud to support this year’s Road Safety Week and theme which highlights the crucial roles modern vehicle technology and proper maintenance play in preventing crashes and reducing harm.
Every year, more than 1,700 people die on UK roads, with another 30,000 suffering serious, life-changing injuries - a stark figure that has seen no significant reduction in over a decade. These are not just statistics; they are preventable tragedies.
Modern vehicle technology, such as automated driver assistance systems (ADAS), intelligent speed assistance, and advanced braking, are designed to actively prevent accidents or mitigate their severity when they do occur.
How can your business fleet promote road safety?
As a fleet management company, we’re dedicated to integrating these life-saving advancements into our client fleets. Here’s how we can help your business:
- Prioritising the safest vehicles: When procuring new vehicles, we’re able to select models with the highest safety ratings and the latest in active and passive safety features.
- Ensuring roadworthiness: A safe vehicle is a roadworthy vehicle. We maintain rigorous, proactive maintenance schedules and encourage our drivers to perform essential safety checks before every journey, ensuring all components, from tyres to brakes, are in optimal condition.
- Investing in driver training: While safe vehicles are essential, the human factor accounts for the vast majority of accidents. We provide ongoing, data-driven driver training that focuses on safe driving habits, the correct use of in-vehicle technology, and awareness of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.
- Promoting a safety culture: Road safety isn’t just an annual campaign; it’s a year-round commitment. We strive to embed a strong safety-first culture throughout our organisation, and yours - encouraging open dialogue about risks and responsibilities. If you need our help, get in touch.
