Volkswagen is the UK’s best-selling fleet brand, selling more cars into the corporate sales channels than any other brand in 2025 and retaining it’s top position for two years running, according to recent data published by Fleet News. More than 178,000 new VWs in total ventured onto British roads, last year. The VW Tiguan was the UK’s best-selling fleet car, while the Golf was also a top performer, ranking sixth overall.
Volkswagen has dominated the overall UK new-car market for five consecutive years; its leadership in the specific “true fleet” sector has been more recent and for the last two years has overtaken BMW, which is now the second favourite fleet brand in the UK. It’s followed by Audi and then Tesla, according to registrations data.
The Alpine, Dacia and Renault marques achieved strong true fleet sales performance and other notable performances came in the form of the Cupra (53% increase on last year), Hyundai (20% increase) and Mini (79% increase).
The arrival of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, led the brand to almost double its true fleet sales in 2025. Porsche also had reason to celebrate, thanks to the launch of the Macan Electric which performed well.
Left in less of a celebratory mood were Citroen, down 50%, Nissan, down 18%, and Kia, down 13%. Tesla also struggled to maintain its 2024 volumes, finishing 2025, 18% down, however both Telsa and Kia still feature in the top 5, higher than Skoda, Mercedes, Toyota, Hyundai and Ford (all in the top 10).
Chinese car makers are gaining ground at a remarkable pace, accounting for 10% of all true fleet registrations, up from 4% in 2024, proving that the established brands really do have a fight on their hands to retain their market share. BYD achieved an incredibly impressive growth of 433%.
41% of true fleet registrations were for electric cars. Regular petrol and diesel engines accounted for 32% of the total, while plug-in hybrids made up 18%.
